Question:

From Morning Sun, Iowa, USA:

My daughter, age 15 1/2 felt shaky the other night and checked her blood glucose on my blood glucose meter. Her blood sugar was 50 mg/dl [2.8 mmol/L]. I have had type 1 diabetes for 38 years. Again this afternoon, she complained of feeling "shaky. Is this a precursor to diabetes? What do you recommend?

Answer:

It is not likely to be a precursor to diabetes. More likely, it's that she'd been exercising or had gone a long time without food.
